Coming to the Empress Building in Doncaster is a comic legend

Thanks to a large investment from a South Yorkshire businessman, Mexborough's famed Empress Building—once acclaimed as the Palace of Dancing—has finally found its rhythm.

The Empress, which first opened in 1928, was the social hub of Mexborough for many years and attracted many well-known performers, musicians, dancers, and beauty queens. The legendary ballroom was the location to be seen for courting couples and youths who would choose a partner on the dance floor with whom they would ultimately spend the rest of their lives during the illustrious post-war years.

The ballroom walls of the Empress vibrated with youthful exuberance that was in full swing, providing a welcome respite from the humdrum of daily life. Owner of the Empress Jason Mace, business partner John Jo Irwin and manager Jemma Brannan have revived this atmosphere for a 21st-century audience.

The Empress Building is experiencing a new lease of life once more, hosting private parties, concerts, and glamorous weddings.

Currently, a national treasure who rose to fame as one half of the duo Cannon and Ball is scheduled to appear on the magnificent stage 23rd September 2023.

The popular duo dominated primetime television; for over a decade. Tommy Cannon acted as the straight man to the late Bobby Ball. Tommy has had a remarkable life as an actor, singer, and comedian; most recently, at a sold-out performance in Manchester, rock legend Robbie Williams praised him. He is now making his stage comeback in Rock On Tommy, a variety performance that includes videos, amazing stories, lots of laughs, audience questions, and more.

Fans can meet the comedian who made his television debut on Opportunity Knocks in 1968 and has since made millions of people laugh.
